Who we are
EdgeLingo (the "App") is developed by EdgeLingo ("we", "us"). You can reach us at [email protected].
Data we collect
None. EdgeLingo has no user accounts and does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. We use no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. We do not build a profile of you, and we cannot see your conversations, recordings, or photos.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in the App is stored only on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData), and never leaves it unless you explicitly choose to export or share it. This includes:
- Your conversation transcripts and practice history
- Custom scenarios you create (including any photo you attach)
- Your saved phrase ("chunk") bank and spaced-repetition review progress
- Your app settings (such as your chosen languages and voices)
You can delete this data at any time from the App's Settings, or by deleting the App, which removes all of it. You can also export it as a file to keep your own copy.
How the AI, speech, and camera work
All processing happens on your device:
- Microphone — used only while you are practicing speaking, to convert your speech to text on-device. Recordings and transcripts stay on your device.
- Camera & Photos — optional, used only when you choose to create a scenario from a photo. The photo is analyzed on-device and is not uploaded.
- AI conversation & voice — the language model and the text-to-speech voice run entirely on your device.
Network use
EdgeLingo connects to the internet for one purpose only: to download the AI model files (the language model and the voice) from our content servers (hosted on Cloudflare). This transfers model files to your device. No personal data, audio, photos, or conversation content is sent to us or anyone else during this download or at any other time.
Children's privacy
EdgeLingo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone. Because we collect no data at all, no personal information about children (or anyone) is gathered.
Third-party components
The App uses open-source, on-device AI models (including Google's Gemma and the Kokoro and WhisperKit models) under their respective open-source licenses. These run locally and do not send your data anywhere.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will post the revised version here with a new "Last updated" date.
